The Sphynx cat has to be the most unusual breed in existence, as, unlike other cats, the Sphynx is hairless. The Sphynx is said to be named so because early breeders felt that there was a similarity between their cats and the Egyptian cat sculptures in the British Museum and the Louvre. The Sphynx is also known as the Canadian Hairless. The Sphynx cat originated from a natural genetic mutation, which nevertheless became the foundation of today’s breed of Sphynx cats
The most distinctive feature of the Sphynx cat is its having extremely little fur, and sometimes no fur at all. This can depends on the genetic background of the particular cat, but hormone changes may sometimes cause your sphynx to grow a small amount of fuzz as it matures. Early spay/neuter may lessen the chances of this happening. It may come and go with the changing seasons or remain intact. Mother Nature will often have the last word.
